Americans Concerned About Contaminants in Drinking Water

More than two billion people on earth (or one quarter of the world’s population) do not have access to a safe supply of drinking water.  Most of the world’s people walk at least three hours to fetch water.  In this country, according to an independent study of more than 1400 adults aged 18 and over living in private households, more than 50% of them were “concerned” or “very concerned” about the quality of their water supply.  Forty-eight percent were concerned about the safety of their tap water, whether their water came from a municipal supply or a well.  Almost half identified lead as a primary contaminant of concern. Most of those interviewed were aware of or concerned about the presence of lead, chlorine, arsenic, radium, and pharmaceuticals in their drinking water. The study revealed that a majority of Americans bought some sort of water treatment system when they moved into their current home.  Most purchased a simple and inexpensive system, including refrigerator filters, and only 11% purchased a reverse osmosis system.  The simple, inexpensive point-of-use systems consist primarily of carbon filters that remove tastes and odors, but not contaminants.  Only a reverse osmosis system will remove contaminants that are hazardous to one’s health. One of the only ways consumers can protect themselves from contaminants in drinking water is through the use of a reverse osmosis drinking water system like the Kinetico K5 Drinking Water Station. With up to eight auxiliary filters to select from, our system allows you to cater to your drinking water needs. The Kinetico K5 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Drinking Water System can remove lead, arsenic, chlorine, fluoride, chloramine, chromium, and other toxic chemicals, viruses, as well as bad tastes and odors. The Kinetico K5 drinking water system is the only one certified to remove chromium 6, which is often found in groundwater, among other contaminants. Consumer Reports awarded the Kinetico RO a 99-point rating, and it was featured in the Wall Street Journal because of its unique ability to add specific filters — including the arsenic filter — if new problems arise to affect the water quality. The Kinetico K5 reverse osmosis drinking water system is warrantied for ten years on all parts. The survey was conducted by Applied Research West., Inc. during the month of January 2019 and was commission by the Water Quality Association, a not-for-profit trade association representing the residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment industry.
